i remember calling a guy before a court for governor romney i worked for john boehner than in the majority's office and i called our digital guy and i said tell me about twitter how it is used and what is going to work. he said you don't need to know that. it's not a big thing. and here we are now i notice in this campaign so much of what we did was driven from the bottom-up through twitter. when i was on the plane we would do it different, jen on air force one and i was doing it on what we called here force one. [laughter] i would play gaffle for 15 or 20 minutes and by that time i would come back from the plane and i would see on twitter that it already made news. >> when using people you mean reporters. john? is. >> speaker boehner yesterday talked about not increasing tax rates on small businesses, so if that framework could be accomplished, what kind of revenues could be raised within that framework from your point of view, and could you consider the limit on the value of deductions that the president's had in his budget -- >> okay. first, in terms of small businesses how do you define a small business, and that's, again, one of the sort of slippery slopes a little bit. do you define a multibillion dollar entertainment company, sports team or hedge fund as a small business because their structure happens to be a business structure? and so i think there's, i think everyone agrees that what we really mean when we say small business, what the typical voter envisions when we mean small business is the local dry cleaner, the manufacturer who has 50 people making widgets and stuff like that. nobody thinks they should have their taxes raised. if it's used as sort of code for saying other people

john boehner still in the house for the time being at the treasury. the president is back in the white house and harry reid is in the senate with a few more seats. why should i believe this would end any more positively than the summer of 2011? >> because again i'm not going to try to talk to you in optimism but let's look at what's changed. you have republican leadership acknowledging for the first time in this debate in public that it's agreed to increase in revenues as part of an agreement that helps restore fiscal balance. that's a very important change. you can debate on what motivated that change, and of course it's true that approach has been a popular very substantial support among the american people. you have a much greater recognition that the economy would benefit on a carefully designed balanced agreement on fiscal reform and putting it off indefinitely is not good for the country. that's important, too. and i also think again if you listen carefully to what people are saying and what many politicians are saying with many elected represen

i sat down with john boehner on sunday on a bus going come in ohio, rural ohio. like to sit there and watch the road as you go over bonds and whatnot. he likes the fact a lot of sirens around. but he mentioned that he liked the traffic, if you will. he mentioned this to me. i said, you know, how much leadership can you exert? how much control can you exert over your own conference? and given the freshman. he said well, it's not the freshman who are the problem. if some of the older ministry he wouldn't come you specifically they were. i've really would have liked it if he did what he said it's the older members who are trying to make their own mark, trying to avoid own primary, trying to be perfect scores on some of these outside groups. and they are the problem because anti-leadership is good for them. and it's not necessarily good for the whole. so there's a fascinating battle that we will see now that mitt romney has lost. the activist clash and i have an entry in south carolina is going to scream at the establishment class for having dominated the guy who los
